Walking with bears tour

Day 1)

The tour begins at Poprad airport, where the Walking With Bears team have their office. From here we drive to the Western Tatras to our bear watching base, close to prime bear territory. There may be time for a short walk before a briefing about the bears of Slovakia and the coming days’ activities, (Dinner).

Day 2)

Waking up before dawn for a quick hot drink, we head off into the valleys by vehicle with our packed brunches, collecting a specialist ranger on the way. The first walk begins by climbing through pine forest, on animal trails, leading to the higher ground, above the trees. Hidden valleys, used especially by bears, Chamois, wolves and red deer open up before us, along with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. These are the zones of greatest environmental sensitivity, where bears are most comfortable feeding in daylight. After the long morning walk, we head to our rustic, but beautifully positioned ranger cottage, situated in the heart of the best bear area. Here, we take a siesta and something to eat, before heading out for a shorter late afternoon/evening walk into another precious hidden gem of a valley, and returning for dinner and bed (Packed breakfast, lunch & dinner).

Day 3)

Today, we begin as we did the previous day, heading to another area by car before commence a long morning walk in prime bear country. After lunch back at the ranger cottage, we depart Podbanske and head by car to the medieval village of Spisska Sobota, and the comforts of a boutique pension. The beautiful square has a number of good, atmospheric restaurants to enjoy (Packed breakfast and lunch).

Day 4)

Depending on your departure arrangements, there may be an opportunity to explore the historic Spis region, walk the amazing canyons of Slovensky Raj National Park, or take the mountain train into one of the resort towns nearby. You may wish to add a day room if leaving on the late evening flight from Poprad to luton.  Transfer to Poprad airport for flight home (Breakfast).

PRICE: 895 Euros/person. Minimum 2 people. Dates will be made available for singles to book onto with no supplement.
